Its been in the rumor mill for a long time, more as a merger than an acquisition, but now its come to life: Microsoft + Yahoo. In the few short days since the proposal was made, there has been a lot of news stories flowing out of silicon valley - including the report of an offer from Google to commit to buying years of advertisements on Yahoo's search engine pages. From my perspective, this is an interesting time for Yahoo. They have to define what they are - a content portal, a social network, or a search engine. They aren't performing well at the moment - hence the bid, and if I were running the company I'd be committing myself to focusing on one thing and doing it well. Does Jerry Yang feel the same way?
